ジョン・プラインは3月26日、新型コロナウイルスの症状が出て入院し、治療を受けていたが、4月7日、その合併症により息を引き取った。

彼が闘病中、ジョーン・バエズは友人「ジョン・プラインのために」と彼の曲「Hello In There」をプレイし、回復を願っていた。
