ボブ・ディランとポール・マッカートニー、リトル・リチャードを追悼
ボブ・ディランとポール・マッカートニーが、5月9日に亡くなったロックンロールのパイオニア、リトル・リチャードへ弔辞を捧げた。
ディランは、訃報が流れてすぐ、こうつぶやいた。「リトル・リチャードの訃報を知り、悲嘆に暮れている。僕がまだほんの子供だったとき、彼は僕の輝く星で導きの光だった。僕を行動に移させたオリジナル・スピリットだった」「90年代初め、ヨーロッパで彼と何度か公演を開き、彼の楽屋でよく一緒に過ごすようになった。彼はいつだって寛大で親切で謙虚だった。にもかかわらずパフォーマー、ミュージシャンとしては強烈で、彼から学ぶことはまだたくさんあった」「彼はいつだって、僕が少年時代に畏敬の念を抱いていたリトル・リチャードのままで、僕は彼の前ではいつだって子供のままだった。もちろん、彼は永遠に生き続ける。でも、人生の一部を失ってしまったようだ」

I played some shows with him in Europe in the early nineties and got to hang out in his dressing room a lot. He was always generous, kind and humble. And still dynamite as a performer and a musician and you could still learn plenty from him.

In his presence he was always the same Little Richard that I first heard and was awed by growing up and I always was the same little boy. Of course he’ll live forever. But it’s like a part of your life is gone.

From ‘Tutti Frutti’ to ‘Long Tall Sally’ to ‘Good Golly, Miss Molly’ to ‘Lucille’, Little Richard came screaming into my life when I was a teenager. I had to admit he was right. In the early days of The Beatles we played with Richard in Hamburg and got to know him. He would let us hang out in his dressing room and we were witness to his pre-show rituals, with his head under a towel over a bowl of steaming hot water…
