マイク・ポートノイ、マスク着用を拒む人たちに「子供っぽく無責任で自己中」
マイク・ポートノイが、新型コロナウイルスの感染拡大が収まらないこの状況においてもマスクを着用しない人たちに苦言を呈した。
ポートノイは、スーパーマーケットで店長からマスクを着けるよう注意され逆上し、カートの中身をぶちまける女性を捉えた映像をリツイートしつつ、こうつぶやいた。「一部の人たちはどうしちまったんだ?? 他の人たちを守るため、店内ではマスクを着けることになっているってだけだ……人々はこの上、どれだけ子供じみ、無責任で自分勝手になれるんだ?? 彼らは車の中でシートベルトを着用しなきゃいけないことにも怒り狂うのか??? #growup（大人になれ）」
また、「マスクに予防効果は0」との意見に「これは君のためじゃない。他の人たちのためだ!!」「そんなこと極めて明白」と、自分が弱者やリスクのある人たちに感染させる可能性があるとたしなめ、さらには「“選択の自由”が通用しない事柄はある!! 君はシートベルトなしで運転することが許されているのか?? さらには飲酒運転が“許されている”のか??? これは公共の安全＆自分自身や他人を傷つけたり殺さないよう慎重になれってことだ！ 自分勝手になるのは止めろ」と叱咤した。
