英国の公共放送局BBCが金曜日（1月12日）、2018年活躍が期待される新人のリスト＜BBC Of 2018＞で第1位に輝いたアーティストを発表した。
批評家、DJ、ミュージシャンなど173名の専門家たちが今年最も注目するのは、ノルウェー出身の21歳の女性シンガー・ソングライター、Sigrid。

2013年にリリースした1stシングル「Sun」で注目を浴び、レコード会社からオファーが殺到した彼女は、ノルウェーでは昨年すでにシングル「Don’t Kill My Vibe」、「Strangers」がトップ40ヒットとなった。アデルが大好きだと言い、ところどころで彼女の影響も見られるが、より躍動感があるポップ・ソングを創り出している。
＜Sound Of 2018＞には、Alma、Billie Eilish、IAMDDB、Jade Bird、Khalid、Lewis Capaldi、Not3s、Nilufer Yanya、Pale Waves、Rex Orange County、Sigrid、Sam Fender、Superorganism、Tom Walker、Yaeji、Yxng Baneの16アーティストが候補に挙がり、トップ5には、Pale Waves（5位）、Khalid（4位）、IAMDDB（3位）、Rex Orange County（2位）、Sigrid（1位）が選ばれた。
＜Sound Of …＞は2003年に始まって以来これまで50セント、キーン、ザ・ブレイヴリー、コリーヌ・ベイリー・レイ、Mika、アデル、リトル・ブーツ、エリー・ゴールディング、ジェシー・J、マイケル・キワヌカ、ハイム、サム・スミス、イヤーズ＆イヤーズ、ジャック・ギャレットらが1位に選出されており、2017年はRay BLKが1位、Rag’n’Bone Manが2位、Rayeが3位、Jorja Smithが4位、Nadia Roseが5位だった。
