通算10作目のオリジナル・アルバムとなる『ミッドナイツ』は、「ラヴェンダー・ヘイズ」「マルーン」「アンチ・ヒーロー」「スノウ・オン・ザ・ビーチ feat. ラナ・デル・レイ」「ユーア・オン・ユア・オウン、キッド」「ミッドナイト・レイン」「クエスチョン…？」「ヴィジランティ・シット」「ビジュエルド」「ラビリンス」「カルマ」「スウィート・ナッシング」「マスターマインド」の13曲入り。長年のコラボレーターの一人であるジャック・アントノフを迎え、内省的な『フォークロア』『エヴァーモア』（2020年）の2作を通過した現在ならではの深みも湛えたポップ・ミュージックを創り上げた。

“眠れぬ夜の13の物語”を標榜する今作について、テイラー・スウィフトは「『ミッドナイツ』は、激しさや浮き沈み、そして満ち引きのコラージュです。人生は、暗くも、星が輝くことも、曇ることも、恐ろしくも、しびれるようなものでも、熱くも、冷たくも、ロマンチックでも、孤独でもあることができる、ちょうど真夜中がそうであるように」と述べている。

米現地時間21日午前3時には、アルバムに入らなかった楽曲の数々を加えた“3am Edition”もサプライズで届けられた。
