クランベリーズのドロレス、46歳で急逝
90年代「Linger」や「Dreams」「Zombie」などがヒットしたアイルランドのバンド、クランベリーズの女性ヴォーカリスト、ドロレス・オリオーダンが、月曜日（1月15日）、レコーディング・セッションのため滞在していた英国ロンドンで亡くなった。まだ46歳だった。
現時点で死因は明かされていない。BBCによると、警察は、午前9時頃通報により市内中心部にあるホテルへ急行したが、その場で“40代半ばの女性”の死亡が確認されたとの声明を出しているという。
クランベリーズは昨年、ドロレスの健康上の問題からツアーを中止していた。しかし先月、「元気よ！ NYで数曲パフォーマンスした」とのドロレスからのメッセージがSNSに投稿され、ファンを安堵させていた。
ドロレスはオーディションを受け、クランベリーズ（当時はThe Cranberry Saw Us名義）にリード・シンガーとして加入。バンドは1993年に1stアルバム『Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We?』を発表し、アイルランド、UKで1位を獲得した。
バンドの活動休止期間（2003～2009年）には2枚のソロ・アルバム『Are You Listening?』（2007年）、『No Baggage』（2009年）をリリースし、クランベリーズが活動を再開してからは、復帰作『Roses』（2012年）に続き、昨年4月、7枚目のスタジオ・アルバム『Something Else』を発表したばかりだった。
プライベートでは1994年から20年間、デュラン・デュランのツアー・マネージャーだった男性と結婚しており、3人の子供に恵まれた。
バンド・メンバーは「僕らの友人、ドロレスの死に衝撃を受けている。彼女は並外れた才能の持ち主で、僕らはクランベリーズを始めた1989年から彼女の人生に関わってきたことをとても光栄に感じている。世界は今日、真のアーティストを失った」と追悼の言葉を寄せている。
また、キンクスのデイヴ・デイヴィスは、「急なことで本当にショックを受けている。クリスマスの2週間ほど前、彼女と話した。彼女はハッピーで元気そうだった。僕らは一緒に曲を作ろうかなんて話もしてた―信じられない。彼女に神の御加護を」と、早すぎる死を惜しんだ。
このほか、デュラン・デュラン、ジム・コアー（ザ・コアーズ）、コーダラインらからも追悼の言葉が寄せられている。
