ザ・ビートルズのフォトグラファー、ロバート・フリーマンが死去
ザ・ビートルズのアルバムのカバーとなった写真の数々を撮影してきたフォトグラファーのロバート・フリーマンが亡くなった。死因は明かされていないが、82歳だった。
ザ・ビートルズのオフィシャルTwitterは、11月8日、「ロバート・フリーマン、ザ・ビートルズの長年のフォトグラファーが亡くなった―彼は、アルバム『With The Beatles』『A Hard Day’s Night』『Beatles For Sale』『Help!』『Rubber Soul』でフィーチャーされた、このバンドの最も象徴的な姿を創り出した」と訃報を伝え、「これら彼の写真はこの先も称賛され、他のフォトグラファーたちにインスピレーションを与え続けるだろう。彼のご家族、友人たちにお悔やみと、バンドのために彼が制作したクリエイティブな作品へ称賛と感謝の念を」と追悼の言葉をあげた。

英国の新聞『The Sunday Times』や雑誌の仕事をしてきたフリーマンは、ザ・ビートルズのマネージャー、ブライアン・エプスタインから気に入られ、1963～1966年、ザ・ビートルズの専属フォトグラファーを務めた。写真だけでなく、ザ・ビートルズの映画のエンド・クレジットもデザインした。
数年前、重い脳卒中を起こし、治療費に充てるため写真をいくつか売りに出した際には、ポール・マッカートニーから支援してあげて欲しいとの声が上がっていた。マッカートニーは、フリーマンの死を受け、「この素晴らしい男性がいなくなってしまい寂しいが、僕はずっと、彼の楽しい思い出を大切にしていく」と追悼している。
