またひとつ、どえらい商品がリリースとなった。マイケル・ジャクソンの合計266曲を収録した『The Indispensable Collection』と『The Ultimate Fan Extras Collection』というiTunes限定のデジタル商品だ。

『The Indispensable Collection』は、『オフ・ザ・ウォール』『スリラー』『BAD』『デンジャラス』『インヴィンシブル』といったマイケル・ジャクソンのオリジナルアルバム全てに加えて、1988年の歴史的なBADツアーから『ライヴ・アット・ウェンブリー』も収録した、全104曲入りのコレクションだ。これらの楽曲は全てMastered for iTunes仕様となっている。価格は10,000円だ。

ちなみにMastered for iTunesとは、アーティスト自身やレコーディングエンジニア、プロデューサーが意図した音をより正確に再現するために、iTunes専用のマスタリングを行ったもの。Mastered…と言えどマスタークオリティのハイレゾではないが、最適化による音質向上は嬉しい限りだ。なお201年7月3日を境に、『The Indispensable Collection』のみならずiTunes上のマイケル・ジャクソン作品も、多くがMastered for iTunes仕様へと変更されている。

さて、もうひとつの『The Ultimate Fan Extras Collection』は、魅惑的な初期のデモ作品や、創造的なコラボレーション楽曲、そして革新的なリミックス作品を収録した、マイケル・ジャクソンが天才たる所以を示す全162曲入りのコレクションだ。こちらは15,000円。

マイケル・ジャクソンの名曲の数々を収録した104曲入り『The Indispensable Collection』と、レアトラックがひとまとめとなった162曲入り『The Ultimate Fan Extras Collection』という特別な2商品は、そのタイトル通り、なくてはならない究極の作品群となっている。

この作品は、マイケル・ジャクソン財団とシルク・ドゥ・ソレイユのコラボレーションによる『マイケル・ジャクソン・ワン』本公演が、6月29日からラスべガスのマンダレイ・ベイにて開始されたこと合わせてリリースとなったもの。日本でも、2013年5月～6月にかけてシルク・ドゥ・ソレイユによる『マイケル・ジャクソン ザ・イモータル　ワールドツアー』が計36公演行われ、日本中の多くのファンを感動の渦に巻き込んだばかりだ。
