孤高のシンガー・ソングライター、ダニエル・ジョンストン、死去
アメリカ人のシンガー・ソングライター、ダニエル・ジョンストンが9月10日、58歳で亡くなった。メインストリームで活動するアーティストではなかったが、多くの作品を発表し、その純粋な音楽、姿勢がリスペクトされてきた。
故カート・コバーンも彼のファンだったと言われる。音楽だけでなく、イラストなどアートの分野でも評価されてきた。
ジョンストンのFacebookには、「とても悲しいことに、ダニエルが今朝亡くなったことをお知らせします、この辛い時期、私たちには本当だと思うことが1つあります。ダニエルの言葉によれば、“真の愛は、最後に君を見つける”です」と始まる訃報が掲載された。
ジョンストンは、テキサス州ヒューストン郊外にある自宅で、息を引き取ったという。自然死だったと伝えられている。
ベックは「RIP ダニエル・ジョンストン」とつぶやき、自身がカヴァーした「True Love Will Find You In The End」の音源を添えた。ジャック・アントノフ、デイヴ・ナヴァロ、ザ・クリブスらからも追悼の言葉が上がっている。

So sad to hear about the passing of Daniel Johnston. He wrote at least two of my favourite songs of all time – “Hey Joe” and “Walking The Cow”. Listening to “Hi, How Are You?” on my old cassette radio whilst doing the washing up is my mental ‘happy place’.
