デヴィッド・ボウイ初の録音テープ、予想額の4倍で落札
1963年、16歳のデヴィッド・ボウイ（デヴィッド・ジョーンズ）が、彼にとって初のバンドThe Konradsとレコーディングしたデモ・テープが、今週、英国で開かれたオークションで、予想額（1万ドル）の約4倍、3万9,360ポンド（約572万円）で落札された。
価格は実際に競売が始まる前すでに1万1,000ポンドに到達しており、最後には海外の2人のコレクターの間で激しい入札合戦が繰り広げられたという。
18分ほどあるテープは、The KonradsのドラマーだったDavid Hadfieldが最近、車庫の屋根裏にあった古いパン籠の中に発見。1963年初め、ロンドン南部モーデンのスタジオで、当時はサックスをプレイしていたボウイをリード・ヴォーカルにパフォーマンスした、これまで発表されたことがなかった「I Never Dreamed」が収録されている。
Hadfieldはオークションに先駆け、「僕は、これを歌い、正しい解釈を与えるのに最も相応しいのはデヴィッドだと判断した。それでこれが、デヴィッド・ジョーンズが歌っている初の録音物となったんだ。デヴィッドをリードにした録音物は他に存在しない」とコメントしていた。

今回のオークションでは、このテープほか、The Konradsのプロモーションを念頭にボウイが描いたスケッチ、バンドの写真と書類が1万7,130ポンド（約250万円）、1963年の彼らのポスターが6,600ポンド（約96万円）で落札されたそうだ。
