ポール・スタンレー、ジーン・シモンズの「It’s My Life」誕生秘話を訂正
キッスのポール・スタンレーが、ジーン・シモンズが明かした「It’s My Life」の誕生秘話を正した。
「It’s My Life」は当初、キッスの10枚目のスタジオ・アルバム『Creatures Of The Night』（1982年）のためにデモが制作されたが、収録されることはなく、その後、18枚目『Psycho Circus』（1998年）のセッションでレコーディングされるも、またもやボツとなった。
シモンズは最近、この曲に関して「ポール・スタンレーが“Every Little Beat Of Your Heart”って曲を作り始めてて、俺がそのコード進行を取り、全く新しい曲を作り上げた」と話したらしいが、スタンレーにとってこれは聞き捨てならなかったようだ。
Blabbermouth.netや『Ultimate Classic Rock』がシモンズのコメントについて伝えると直ちに、スタンレーはTwitterを通じ、「It’s My Life」と「Every Little Beat Of Your Heart」は別物だと注釈した。
「気になる人へ…“It’s My Life”って曲は、俺のほかのどの曲とも関係ない。俺が“It’s My Life”のタイトル、コーラス、コード、メロディ＆歌詞を書いたが、そのときは使いたくなかった。ジーンが使いたがり、だから彼が残りを書いたんだ。それが真実だ！ @UltClassicRock」

For anyone it matters to… The song “It’s My Life” had nothing to do with any other song of mine. I wrote the title, chorus, chords, melody & lyric to “It’s My Life” and didn’t want to use at the time. Gene wanted to use it so he wrote the rest. THAT’S the story!@UltClassicRock

FYI…I wrote for the song “Every Little Beat Of Your Heart” for the Bob Ezrin project which became “The Elder”. It’s transformation started when Lou Reed wrote a terrific lyric poem for it called a”A World Without Heroes”. Bob put them together. @UltClassicRock @BLABBERMOUTHNET

「It’s My Life」のデモは、シモンズが最近リリースした『Gene Simmons – The Vault Experience: 1966-2016』に収録。また、別ヴァージョンが、シモンズがプロデュースしたプラズマティックスのシンガー、ウェンディ・O・ウィリアムズのソロ・デビュー・アルバム『WOW』（1984年）に収録されていた。
シモンズは金曜日（2月16日）に米マサチューセッツ州で開いたソロ公演で、初めて「It’s My Life」をライブ・パフォーマンスした。
